JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The first shipment of iron-ore from Midwest Vanadium’s Windimurra mine, in Western Australia, will leave the Geraldton port for China in mid-July, the company announced on Tuesday.

Midwest Vanadium, a subsidiary of ASX-listed Atlantic, has signed a contract with a Chinese buyer to deliver 30 000 wet tonnes of hematite iron-ore fines from its Windimurra vanadium and iron-ore mine.

Atlantic said it planned to sell regular shipments of hematite iron-ore fines – a by-product of the vanadium production process at Windimurra – subject to a favourable iron-ore pricing environment.

The mine has an existing 1.8-million-tonne stockpile of 52% Fe hematite iron-ore fines. Once fully ramped up, Windimurra will produce one-million tonnes of marketable 55% Fe hematite iron-ore fines a year.
