PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior Metals X has inked an Indigenous Land Use Agreement in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, covering all of its Nifty and Maroochydore tenure, including the Nifty copper mine and the Maroochydore copper project.

The agreement was inked with the Western Desert Lands Aboriginal Corporation (WDLAC) on behalf of the Martu people.

Metals X CEO Mike Spreadborough said that the Land Use Agreement allowed for a further 800 km2 of highly prospective exploration licence applications to be granted, and provided a clear path for the future development of mineral discoveries within the project area.

“This is an important agreement for the Martu people. The deal we’ve made with Metals X is setting a new standard for protecting Aboriginal land and culture and shares the benefits of mining that we hope comes from future minerals exploration,” said WDLAC chairperson Melvin Farmer.
