Established in 2008, Mernok Elektronik is a rapidly growing company specialising in the design and manufacture of power electronic and embedded control systems for mining, military and industrial customers.

The 20-person-strong company, which has a yearly turnover of R30-million, handles projects in the electronic engineering industry from concept to the production and maintenance phases. It offers a full design service and a range of power electronics and control equipment.

For mining applications, Mernok Elektronik offers vehicle safety management systems focusing on collision avoidance, speed control, licence management and the monitoring of critical vehicle parameters. It also has fleet management systems for the mining industry, remote control products, traffic lights for underground applications, cash-in-transit management systems, power monitors, loggers and power supplies for harsh environments.

The company has recently been awarded a contract to equip the majority of gold mining major AngloGold Ashanti’s locomotive fleet with its safety management system.

With vast experience in the mining industry and military applications, reliability and safety is at the core of all Mernok Elektronik products and services. Continuous research and development also keeps Mernok Elektronik at the forefront of power electronic engineering technology.

The company is based in Centurion, Gauteng, where it rents 500 m2 premises at Gateway Industrial Park. Its fixed assets are valued at R2-million and its order book is valued at about R2-million.

Mernok Elektronik has three shareholders: SD Janse van Rensburg, RD Shaw and A Janse van Rensburg.
