Newly appointed Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa seems to have embraced the ‘project manager’ title that many commentators felt Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe had bestowed on the portfolio in order to belittle its role. In various interviews, Ramokgopa indicated he would be acting with the “laser focus” of a project manager in a bid to tackle loadshedding and its devastating economic, social and environmental consequences. It is indeed a ‘mega project’ of a scale far larger than the troubled Medupi or Kusile projects.
