Africa-focused mining and development company Marula Mining has appointed Collins Aseto head of exploration in East Africa as the company seeks more battery metal opportunities in the region.

Aseto has 15 years of experience in mineral exploration and resource development as a geoscientist, including through tenures at Lonmin, Anglo American and Acacia Mining.

As head of exploration in East Africa, he will oversee the management and implementation of the company’s exploration programmes throughout the region and will be responsible for identifying additional exploration and mining opportunities in Kenya and Tanzania.

Marula CEO Jason Brewer says that, with Collins in the position, it allows the company to effectively manage its exploration efforts in East Africa and expand its project portfolio.

Marula’s strategy remains to identify and acquire near-term battery metals mining opportunities in Africa.

Currently, the company has interests in the Blesberg lithium and tantalum mine and the Korridor lithium project in South Africa; the Kinusi copper mine and the Nyorinyori, NyoriGreen and Bagamoyo graphite projects in Tanzania; and the Nkombwa Hill project in Zambia.
