Cutifani's directorship at TotalEnergies renewed

Mark Cutifani

Energy company TotalEnergies’ shareholders have approved the renewal of the three-year terms as director of Marie-Christine Coisne-Roquette and Mark Cutifani.

This approval was granted at a combined shareholder’s meeting of TotalEnergies on May 26, under the chairmanship of Patrick Pouyanné.

All resolutions were approved at the meeting, which included the above.

Cutifani was previously head of global miner Anglo American. In April 2022, the company announced that after nine years as chief executive, Cutifani would be stepping down, to be succeeded by Duncan Wanblad.

As reported by Bloomberg earlier this month, South American diversified miner Vale has appointed Cutifani to lead an independent board that will oversee its new base metals subsidiary, while flagging “news” on a strategic partner by midyear.

The report added that Cutifani would join Jerome Guillen, a former Tesla executive, on what has been termed the energy transition metals board.

It was indicated that Vale, with the majority of its earnings from iron-ore mines in Brazil, was looking to bring in fresh capital and expertise to grow its nickel and copper operations in Canada, Brazil and Indonesia to align with battery metals demand increasing as part of the move away from fossil fuels.
