Manufacturer showcased capabilities at Electra Mining

PUMP DISPLAY KSB displayed its Mill Duty Xtra (MDX) 550 pump at the Electra Mining Africa exhibition

This year’s Electra Mining Africa exhibition enabled KSB Pumps to showcase its capabilities as a manufacturer of slurry pumps, says KSB Middle East and Africa regions area manger Rob Bond.

KSB first entered the slurry pump manufacturing market 25 years ago. Bond says there is a growing demand for the company’s pumps in Africa, with opportunities for local pumps manufacturing increasing.

“The majority of our pumps are manu–factured in South Africa and we have expanded our product offering to mining through the local manufacture of hard-rock slurry pumps,” he explains.

KSB displayed its Mill Duty Xtra (MDX) 550 pump at the exhibition, with Bond describing the pump as robust, owing to it being designed for use in hard rock mining and for mill discharge.

The MDX 550 pump has a slurry diverter on the suction side that reduces wear which, consequently, reduces total cost of ownership.

The pump also has a suction liner automated adjustment to ensure safety at operations during shutdown periods for maintenance at mines, which Bond says maintains the pumping efficiency.

He adds that the company strives to continuously improve, and implement cost reduction programmes and new technology, in addition to the company’s conducting continuous research and development at its laboratory testing facilities.

Further, with there being demand for its services in Africa, KSB has established KSB companies in Angola, Namibia, Zambia, Ghana and Kenya to encourage these countries to become more self-sufficient in terms of ensuring sales and aftersales services to clients.

“In the short term, however, we aim to embark on a few more projects and push the MDX into various markets,” Bond concludes.
