Wear-resistant conveyor introduced

28th May 2021

Designer and manufacturer of bulk handling equipment Flexicon has introduced a wear-resistant flexible screw conveyor, which comprises a carbon steel conveyor tube, heavy-duty flexible screw, and heavy-gauge floor hopper and discharge housing, and is capable of moving crushed glass, aluminium oxide, silica sand, aggregate, and other abrasive materials.

The company explains that the screw is available in lengths up to 12 m in round, square, flat or beveled profiles to optimise conveying efficiency for each application.

In addition, the screw is the only moving part contacting material. Its lower end has no bearing, while its upper end is driven beyond the material discharge point, preventing material contact with the upper seal or bearing, the company explains.

Further, this configuration facilitates simple maintenance in harsh environments since the single moving component can be quickly replaced if necessary.

As it rotates, the screw self-centres, providing ample space between itself and the tube wall to minimise or eliminate grinding.

The company notes that “the gentle rolling action imparted by the screw prevents the separation of blends”, while the enclosed conveyor tube prevents product and plant contamination.

Supplied as standard with a “durable industrial coating”, the unit is available with an optional start-stop control panel and a range of flow-promotion devices.

Flexicon also manufacture other flexible screw conveyors, pneumatic conveying systems, tubular cable conveyors, bulk bag dischargers, bulk bag conditioners, bulk bag fillers, manual dumping stations, drum/box/container tippers, weigh batching systems and automated plant-wide systems integrated with new or existing process equipment.

Flexicon is a privately-held and operated designer and manufacturer of bulk material handling equipment and systems with manufacturing locations on four continents and worldwide representation. Its global headquarters is located in Philadelphia, in the US, while its South African regional office is in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape. At the local level, Flexicon’s personnel provides the knowledge and resources needed to satisfy the diverse requirements of indivi- dual process plants, while providing the worldwide infrastructure, long-term vision, stability and single source capability required by multinational organisations.
