The Malawi Roads Authority (MRA) is inviting expressions of interest from eligible consulting firms interested in providing consultancy services that include construction supervision for the Mzuzu–Nkhata Bay road, in northern Malawi.

The $33.2-million project will be financed by the African Development Bank.

The consultancy services being sought include design review, preparation of bidding documents, tendering and supervision of civil works.

“Interested consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services, including brochures, descriptions of similar assignments under-taken, experience in similar conditions and availability of appropriate skills among staff,” says the MRA.

It says consultants may form joint ventures to enhance their chances of qualification.

The deadline for submitting expressions of interest is September 23.

The Mzuzu–Nkhata Bay road is one of the major trunk roads prioritised in the Malawi Government’s Road Sector Programme, as it is part of the road network that links the northern region of the country to the central and southern regions.

“The road, once rehabilitated, will support economic growth in the northern region and is expected to benefit an estimated 342 211 people living in the two districts, by improving access to markets, schools, health centres and other socioeconomic centres.
