The Nantes Saint-Nazaire port, in France, has awarded a tender to Paris-listed green hydrogen producer Lhyfe to develop an industrial production and distribution site in Montoir-de-Bretagne.

The port launched the call for proposals in November 2022 for a project to set up an industrial renewable hydrogen production plant at the heart of the port’s industrial and logistics ecosystem.

Lhyfe produces green and renewable hydrogen through the electrolysis of water, through production units powered by renewable energy.

At the port, the company will build an industrial unit with a production capacity of up to 85 t/d of green hydrogen, with an installed electrolysis capacity of 210 MW.

The plant, on which construction will start once operating authorisations and construction permits are granted, is expected to be operational by 2028.

Lhyfe currently has seven other construction sites across France, Germany and Sweden.

The Montoir-de-Bretagne project will contribute to the decarbonisation of the industrial port complex and maritime transport in the area. It will also align with a roadmap that has been drawn up to transform the Loire Estuaire territory in France to a low-carbon energy hub.
