While President Cyril Ramaphosa was urging investors to embrace green energy and calling on rich countries to support developing-country energy transitions with concessional finance, his Mineral Resources and Energy Minister was jumping to a very different conclusion. Gwede Mantashe said green financing for Eskom could be a “dangerous step” that could “collapse the economy”. It’s quite a leap of logic and it’s also extremely confusing for investors.
