VANCOUVER (miningweekly.com) – Gold miner Leagold Mining has produced 47 766 oz of gold at its flagship Los Filos mine, in Mexico, during the third quarter ended September 30 – a 4% increase over the prior quarter.

The Vancouver-based company announced on Wednesday that the mine had produced 137 749 oz of gold during the nine months to September 30, which includes 91 746 oz following Leagold’s acquisition of the mine on April 7.

The Los Filos operations comprise two openpit mines, Los Filos and Bermejal, an underground mine at Los Filos. There is potential to develop a new underground mine at Bermejal as an expansion project.

The company said Los Filos remains on track to produce between 185 000 oz and 200 000 oz for the full year, on target with guidance.

Leagold advised that the installation of an agglomerator to improve gold recoveries and the extension of the conveyor to improve ore delivery to the heap leach, continued, and will be completed in the current quarter, and start operating in the first quarter of 2018.

The Bermejal underground expansion project is proceeding, with the work having started on the exploration portal and ramp in September. The company has also completed about 65% of the 56 000 m infill and step-out drilling programme.
