Angola’s national diamond trading company Sodiam this week sold, at tender, 1 012.9 ct of special diamonds produced at the Catoca and Lulo mines, in Angola, for a net value of $19.5-million.

The fourth rough diamond tender in Luanda, whose evaluation sessions took place between November 15 and 29, at Sodiam’s premises, included the electronic submission of proposals.

A diversified pack of special diamonds, including six diamonds from Lulo and 15 from Catoca, were on offer.

Altogether, 29 companies participated in the tender.

In the current format of the purchase and sale of diamonds, participating companies presented their bids remotely, in a closed model, on the “online” electronic platform created for this purpose, a model that generates greater transparency in the process and allows for a higher commercial value for available stones, Sodiam notes.
