Latest crane safety, truck developments on show

NICE BOD The Summit Gunnison Edition, first revealed at MINExpo in 2016 on a Ford F-550, has a new package designed for Chevy Silverado 6500 HD

Custom service and lube body manufacturer Summit Truck Bodies will be showcasing the latest developments in crane safety technology at mining show MINExpo International, which is taking place at the Las Vegas Convention Centre (LVCC) in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the US, from September 13 to 15.

Summit Truck Bodies, which will be occupying booth #8555 at the LVCC Central Hall, will display its updated advanced safety electronics (ASE) Phase 4 crane control system. A new Gunnison edition 4×4 service truck package for the Chevy Silverado 6500 HD will also be revealed.

The updated ASE Phase 4 crane control system features more robust sensors and switches to extend the durability and reliability of Summit safety systems.

Additionally, a new mount for the main display panel eases access for updating software, troubleshooting and adding auxiliary components.

A new digital display has also been added to the push-button panel in the cab. It will provide more information with text, visual and audible alerts, as well as notifications. The panel can operate lights and the power take-off. There is also the option to add additional auxiliary controls as needed.

The innovative crane operation system has what Summit Truck Bodies claims is an industry-first feature that enhances crane operator controls and safety. Crane operators can automatically deploy the outriggers and stabilisers, auto-levelling the truck in one step from their wireless crane remote control. The advantage is that the operator is not attached closely to the truck while completing this task. The operator therefore has the freedom to walk around the truck or watch from a distance to

visually check for hazards, thereby ensuring successful deployment and that the truck is level on a solid surface.

The proper use of outriggers and stabilisers is required for safe crane operation and to maximise crane lifting capacity. Once the job is complete and the operator automatically stows the crane, they can also stow the outriggers from the remote control.

Summit Truck Bodies’ advanced safety electronics control system has positioned the company as a key industry player in crane safety technology.

Meanwhile, the Summit Gunnison Edition, first revealed at MINExpo in 2016 on a Ford F-550, has a new package designed for Chevy Silverado 6500 HD. The Chevy 6500 HD 22.5K GVWR, combined with the Summit body and Gunnison package, is a reliable service truck choice for mining applications.

Increased payload, the durable and robust truck body, extreme off-road capabilities, and safety technology make this service truck the best solution for meeting the field service demands of the most remote and harsh mines in the world.

The Chevy 6500 Gunnison Edition Package features 42.87 inch tall Continental MPT81 335/80R20 tyres, as well as 20 inch aluminium double beadlock wheels. The machine boasts a 2.5 inch front suspension lift and a one inch rear suspension lift, as well as dual steering stabilisers. Modified front fenders accommodate larger tires, while the custom fabricated front bumper is winch-ready. Moreover, Society of Automotive Engineers-approved rigid fog lights are recessed into the front bumper face, while the custom fabricated cab steps ease egress and add protection to the cab.

Summit Truck Bodies will exhibit a total of five service trucks at MINExpo International this year. The variety of truck bodies is intended to give attendees a close-up look at the custom engineering, design and quality manufacturing capabilities of the company.

Three of the trucks will also be on display at the Utility Expo in Louisville, Kentucky, in the US, from September 28 to 31.
