Kgosi M.J Nyalala Pilane, sends condolences to the Mandela family and South Africa following the passing of former President Nelson Mandela.
“Our heartfelt condolences to the family and the nation during this difficult time of mourning the departure of the highly respected leader, it is indeed a great loss to us all.” Pilane said in a statement.
Nelson Mandela passed away on the 5th of December 2013 after a long illness. Pilane paid tribute to the 95-year-old former president’s visionary leadership and commitment to the political struggle and leading the shift from apartheid to democracy after spending 27 years in prison.
He said that Nelson Mandela was the father of democracy as he had instituted a democratic change and united all South Africans regardless of age, race and gender. His vision, the foundation of the constitution of our democracy, has enabled the traditional authorities, to perform as well as they have. Through his leadership, the Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela has been given opportunity to realise their journey, something we are truly grateful for.
“Nelson Mandela focused on tackling institutionalised racism, poverty and inequality, and fostering racial reconciliation, his legacy will linger on throughout the years of our lives and the generations to come,” said Pilane.The Bakgatla-Ba-Kgafela in Moruleng, is a community of about 350 000 people, living in the North West Province, near the Pilanesberg, South Africa.
