Canada-based gold miner Resolute Mining has appointed Keith Marshall as nonexecutive director of the company.

Marshall is a mining engineer with considerable technical and managerial expertise gained over 40 years in the sector, with the last 15 years spent in senior mine leadership roles. His experience in underground mining and caving is particularly relevant, the company states.

Marshall’s last two operational roles were both with Rio Tinto, with whom he has worked for 22 years, as MD of the Palabora Mining Company in South Africa and as president of the Oyu Tolgoi project in Mongolia.

Marshall holds a mining engineering degree from the Royal School of Mines at Imperial College London, and currently serves on the board of Shanta Gold as nonexecutive director and chairperson of the remuneration committee.

“I am delighted that Keith is joining the Resolute board. His significant experience in underground mining, as well as complex technical and operational mining projects, will allow him to make a significant contribution to the company.

“The Resolute board recognises the importance of, and implements, plans and processes to both identify and augment specialist skills that it requires, as well as ensuring regular fresh input,” says Resolute chairperson Martin Botha.

“Keith's appointment initiates a process of board realignment and renewal following on recent executive changes which have seen the majority of the team now being based in the Africa/UK time zone,” he adds.

Marshall’s appointment is subject to completion of standard checks and he will join as a member of both the audit and risk, as well as the remuneration, committees.
