JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The environmental scoping report for a 15 MW smelter at pig-iron developer Ironveld’s operations has been submitted to the Limpopo Department of Economic Development, Environment and Tourism.

The submission of the Prescali Environmental Consultants-prepared final scoping report brought Ironveld’s ambition of building a 15 MW direct current arc furnace on farm Altona 696 LR closer to delivery.

“As our definitive feasibility study, published in April, demonstrated, the smelter is a robust project and will be cash flow positive from commencement of production,” CEO Peter Cox said in a statement on Friday.

“This is an important step in the approvals required by the National Environmental Management Act, which would allow production to start in late 2015.
