ASX-listed Ionic Rare Earths, further to its planned progression towards development and production at the Makuutu rare earths project, in Uganda, has appointed Max McGarvie as a nonexecutive director.

McGarvie is a senior mining executive with an extensive portfolio of technical and managerial appointments in a career exceeding 45 years in mine development, mineral processing, operational and management roles across Australia, Africa and the Middle East.

His most recent role was executive GM for Global Advanced Metals, where he managed the Australian division of the group, which is focused on tantalum mining and processing in Australia and sourcing tantalum concentrates from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda.

Meanwhile Brad Marwood has advised the board that, owing to his recent appointment to a second executive role, he will not be able to devote the time and attention required as a director to Ionic.

As a result, Marwood has tendered his resignation from the board.
