Platinum miner Impala Platinum's subsidiary Marula Platinum is inviting independent power producers (IPPs) to submit expressions of interest for the supply and management of a 30 MW solar plant at its mine situated on the eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex, in Limpopo.

IPPs with combined engineering, procurement, construction, operation and maintenance competencies, capacity and experience will be required to submit a consolidated engineering, procurement and construction and operation and maintenance proposal for a 30 MW solar photovoltaic power plant and associated infrastructure on a fixed price, turnkey basis.

“Security of electricity supply and rising energy prices are material risks for our operation. Further, we are committed to contributing towards Implats’ ambitious targets to significantly reduce greenhouse-gas emissions across the group by 2030. A renewable energy supply will help us mitigate risk and deliver on our commitments,” says Marula GM Themba Ngobeni.

The project is to be built on land over which Marula has a mining right, and the plant will connect behind the meter.

The closing date for request for proposal submissions is 12:00 on June 26. All interested parties will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement before receiving the request for proposal document, Marula Platinum said.

Documents can be requested by sending an email to tenders.marula@implats.co.za.
