Growth, transformation & competitiveness

The government, business and labour stakeholders of the South African mining sector face the realities of the mining industry with brutal honesty, preferring to tell it as it is rather than beat around the bush. They are all aware that to get new improved outputs, there have to resort to different inputs, with no one more aware of this than the forthright president of the Chamber of Mines of South Africa Mark Cutifani shown at this month’s Mining Lekgotla. The industry can only be transformed if it grows and without competitiveness it cannot grow and thus cannot transform economically, demographically and technologically.
