PERTH (miningweekly.com) Mining has resumed at the Ulysses West gold deposit, in Western Australia, marking the second mining campaign at the project.

Openpit operations at Ulysses West started in October last year, and some 49 000 t of ore, grading 4 g/t gold was transported to the Paddington Mill for processing.

ASX-listed Genesis Minerals said on Tuesday that a limited mining campaign will now be undertaken to extract a small parcel of high-grade ore, totaling some 10 000 t, at the base of the openpit from the last mining campaign at Ulysses West.

Blast-hole drilling and dewatering has started, with the mining fleet mobilising on site and the mining scheduled to start late this week.

MD Michael Fowler told shareholders that the limited mining campaign would effectively round-off last year’s openpit mining programme using appropriately sized mining equipment to extract the high-grade material.

“This limited campaign will allow Genesis to access high-value ore at the base of the pit and ensure that we extract full value from our initial mining campaign at Ulysses West.”

Meanwhile, reverse circulation at Ulysses East has now been completed, while aircore drilling has targeted potential strike repititions of the Ulysses structure. The results from these drilling campaigns are yet to be released.
