Gemecs (Pty) Ltd is a small-sized geological company that renders geological and mining consulting services to the Southern Africa mining industry. Gemecs is a South African company, with its head office situated in Middelburg, Mpumalanga, with a satellite office located in Morningside Johannesburg. Its team of consultants have extensive experience working with a large range of commodities in South Africa and the Southern African region. These commodities include mainly coal, the platinum group of metals, manganese and chrome.
The experience of Gemecs’ consultants extends over a wide array of fields within the geological and mining industries. On the geological side, this includes target generation, prospecting permit applications, exploration management, diamond drilling core logging, core sampling, underground and in-pit mapping and observations, grade control, geological databases, geological resource modelling and project management services. On the mining side, our services include mine design and scheduling services with our strategic mining engineering associates. Gemecs also has considerable expertise in implementing conceptual studies, pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, due diligence studies, review and auditing of geological and mining models, review and auditing of geological databases, geological and mining report writing and competent person’s reports (SAMREC & JORC) in both the geological and mining spheres. SOFTWARE USED BY GEMECS
Gemecs uses mostly Geovia Minex™ geological modelling software for all computer-based studies and consulting work. Geovia Minex™ is the recognized world leader of integrated geology and mine planning solutions for coal and other stratified deposits. Geovia Minex™ ensures resources are evaluated accurately and mined efficiently from exploration to rehabilitation. As a single integrated solution, data and skills can be readily moved between teams at significant time and cost savings. Across the world, mining companies turn to Minex to more accurately design, plan and implement mining strategies which drive additional efficiencies, increase productivity, control costs and increase profitability.
Minex has been designed to rapidly evaluate large, deep and data-intense layered deposits such as coal. Developed in partnership with the mining industry, the software is employed by the world’s largest mining companies to model, optimise, design, schedule and rehabilitate even the most complex faulted deposits. As a single, integrated system spanning exploration through production scheduling, data and skills can be readily moved between teams resulting in significant time and cost savings.

It is, however, important to note that Gemecs’ experience extends far beyond this particular software to encompass a wide range of alternative modelling and database systems currently available in the market.
