Gauteng pumps company wins at quality awards

TOP QUALITY Hazleton Pumps marketing director Niël Wehmeyer receives the company’s awards at the 2016 Southern African Development Community Annual Quality Awards

Centurion-based family- owned enterprise Hazleton Pumps was presented with the Company of the Year and the Product of the Year awards at this year’s Southern African Development Community (SADC) Annual Quality Awards ceremony.

The sixth edition of the event was held on March 16 in Gaborone, in Botswana, having previously taken place in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The SADC Annual Quality Awards competition celebrates organisations and individuals across different industries that have made quality advancement a priority in their operations by implementing measurement and high-quality systems, procedures and processes that are in line with local, regional and international best practices. The awards are divided into the Company of the Year, Product of the Year, Service of the Year, Exporter of the Year and Individual Award categories.

Hazleton Pumps highlights that it aims to build long- term committed sustainable customer relationships. Specific specialised pumps are, thus, designed, developed and manufactured in collaboration with customers to meet their individual and customised requirements.

The company’s design and development of the Hippo slurry pumps range, which can operate under the harsh mining conditions found in Southern Africa, earned it the Product of the Year award. This range is capable of handling liquids containing both abrasive and corrosive solids, as the pumps are manufactured from materials such as hard chrome for abrasive applications and duplex stainless steel alloys for acidic and corrosive environments.

The Hippo range also includes the world’s first medium- or high-voltage high-head submersible dewatering pumps. These pumps were designed, developed and manufactured for acid mine dewatering and are mainly used underground. The range consists of five models.
