PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Iron-ore major Fortescue has temporarily suspended site operations at Solomon Hub, in the Pilbara, following a "significant incident" involving an employee.

The Western Mine Workers Alliance said in statement on social media that a worker had been killed at the Fortescue mine site.

However, Fortescue did not give any detail regarding the incident, saying that it was working closely with the state police and the Department of Mines, Industry, Regulation and Safety.

“The safety and wellbeing of our team members is our highest priority and at this time our focus is on ensuring that support is being provided to our employees and contractors,” said Fortescue CEO Elizabeth Gaines.
