Forklift face-off puts drivers’ skills to the test

16th August 2022

Who will be the captain of the lift? The showdown will be one of the exciting events at this year’s Electra Mining Africa. With prize money of R20 000 up for grabs, the trophy will be lifted high by the champion forklift operator.

Hosted by Lifting Africa and Lifting Equipment Engineering Association of South Africa (LEEASA), forklift operators have been invited to enter the competition and display their dazzling driving skills.

Entries are open for all operators who have a valid forklift licence and can drive either a reach truck or a counterbalance forklift truck in racking.

Lifting Africa and LEEASA say the focus of the competition is on accurate, safe driving skills and knowledge, not speed. Competitors start with a score of zero and receive points for errors made, whereas the participant with the lowest number of points becomes the winner.

The first round of heats for counterbalanced forklift operation will be an online test to assess entrants’ practical skills, theoretical knowledge, attitude and efficiency.

All participants will receive a certificate of participation, with the winner(s) prize money, a trophy and bragging rights as Johannesburg’s forklift driving champion.
