A Harmony Gold employee died in an engineering-related accident at the company’s Nyala hoisting shaft, situated near the Phakisa operation, in the Free State, on Wednesday night.
An investigation into the accident is under way.
“We are extremely saddened by the fatality at one of our operations,” said Harmony CEO Peter Steenkamp.
