ENERGY STAND-OFF

Rio Tinto CE Jean-Sebastien Jacques, above, is seen during the Minerals Council of Australia conference at Parliament House, in Canberra, where he chided the Australian government for allowing the country to become one of the most expensively priced energy countries. He warned that high energy prices were placing big and small mining, manufacturing and agricultural businesses at risk and called for less State intervention and more national coordination. He said too many states were going in too many different directions, but met resistance from Victorian Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio, who strongly defended Victoria’s renewable-energy target as being complementary to the national clean energy target.
