Cables and cabling systems company Nexans, in May, launched its next-generation electrohydraulic SUTA-FLEX subsea umbilical termination assembly system, which enables the control of multiple wells through a single umbilical cable.

The solution, launched at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC), held in Houston, in the US, is aimed at making oil and gas project execution more efficient and cost effective.

The subsea umbilical termination assembly connects a number of subsea control modules to the same communications, electrical and hydraulic supply lines.

The Nexans SUTA-FLEX concept offers a flexible modular design, based on standardised features that fit easily within the perimeters of the cable reel. It is also compact and allows a wide range of tensioners to be used for installation and is developed to withstand high pressure and ultradeep waters.

SUTA-FLEX is supplied with a field-proven Nexans electrical field installable termination assembly and a fibre-optic termination unit.

New Possibilities
The use of a single supplier for the design, manufacture and assembly of subsea projects offers improved project execution, Nexans says.

The SUTA-FLEX system is based on standardised components, which are assembled in accordance with a project’s specific needs.

The modular design gives customers full flexibility with regard to its constituent components. SUTA-FLEX is able to accommodate hydraulic, electrical or fibre-optic components, or any combination of the three, within its compact outer dimensions. The design contributes to significantly improved reel packing as well as smoother handling and lifting operations.

The design is based on field- proven components. Its optimised weight and size allow the termination system to work with a wide range of offshore installation vessel tensioners. A greater range of installation vessels may therefore be used.

About Nexans
