PERTH (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed EcoGraf has successfully trialed its proprietary graphite purification technology, recycling lithium-ion battery anode material in Germany.

The company noted that the EcoGraf process delivered outstanding results, increasing the carbon purity of the recycled material by over 200%, and achieving a carbon content of over 99%.

The purification process was trialed on recycled material extracted from lithium-ion batteries, including anode material that consists of natural battery graphite, synthetic graphite and silicon.

The company said that the successful trial represented a major step to support electric vehicle and battery manufacturers achieve sustainable, closed-loop manufacturing processes.

EcoGraf is looking to commercialise the recycling technology at its proposed purification facility, in Kwinana, which would be the first of its kind outside of China.
