The new Cat D8R dozer from construction and mining equipment manufacturer Caterpillar features increased horsepower and a larger standard blade for greater productivity in mines of all types, together with a range of optional technologies to help operators get more work done in less time.
Launched in March, the dozer offers a more efficient powertrain and cooling system, which increases the ambient capability of the machine. Also equipped with the largest standard blade in its class at 10.3 m3, the D8R moves up to 13% more material per pass than previous models.
High tensile strength steel construction and a strong box-section design enable the D8R to stand up to the most extreme applications. A new electronically controlled transmission offers smoother shifting and easy operation with soft-touch shift buttons. Field-proven features, such as an elevated sprocket, differential steering and a planetary power shift transmission with a high-efficiency torque divider, also deliver powerful, durable and reliable operation for “superior uptime and productivity”.
The quiet, air-conditioned cab with an integrated rollover-protection structure provides operators with “excellent all-around visibility” to enhance safety and productivity. In addition to displaying machine operation status, diagnostic events and modes of operation, the primary display is rear-camera ready for added safety.
Simple rotary dials control engine throttle speeds and the bidirectional feature allows the operator to preselect forward or reverse gears for reduced operator effort and improved efficiency.
D8R customers can increase productivity and grading accuracy by selecting available electrohydraulic controls, which reduce operator effort and improve precision and response. These controls also enable Cat Connect Grade technologies – advanced tools that help operators reach their target grade faster and more accurately in fewer passes.
