PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Despite operations at the Rocklands copper mine, in Queensland, remaining suspended, owner CuDeco has awarded a mining contract for the resumption of Stage 1 operations to Andy’s Earthmovers.

The scope of the award is for the initial Stage 1 mining and for the first part of the mining of the Las Minerale Stage 2 pit.

The Stage 1 contract will require the mining of some 1.2-million tonnes of ore and 3.8-million tonnes of waste. Stage 2 will involve the mining of ore and waste in the remainder of Las Minerale, Rocklands South, Rocklands South extended and the Raiden pits.

CuDeco earlier this week suspended operations at Rocklands following an order from the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, pending the submission of an updated safety and health management system.

The copper miner shortly thereafter demanded the resignation of MD Diamin Chen, and appointed Mark Gregory as CEO to drive the Rocklands mine to nameplate capacity.

Gregory was selected after an extensive recruitment process and joined CuDeco from privately held infrastructure and mineral processing construction group Waltz Group, where he was CEO.
