COPPER CAPER

Diversified mining and marketing major Glencore is to invest $950-million to expand operations at its Mopani Copper Mines as part of a plan to lower production costs at the Zambian copper mine, where a child is having fun on a tree swing in a field near the South Ore Body shaft, in Kitwe. On completion of a study, Mopani’s smelter will continue to operate either at reduced level or in campaigns to service ongoing long-term, third-party concentrate purchase contracts. To run the smelter optimally, own-sourced concentrates from the development of the Synclinorium and Mopani Deeps projects will be processed.
