JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed Irish exploration company Connemara Mining has appointed Patrick Cullen its new CEO, effective from Monday.

Cullen boasts over 20 years of experience in the mining and exploration sector, most recently as a director of UK-based mining and metals company Kodal Norway. He was also exposed to the financial markets through his work as exploration manager of ASX-listed African Energy Resources and as project manager of TSX-V-listed Montero Mining and Exploration, where he was responsible for defining an initial phosphate resource for the company.

With in-depth knowledge and experience in technical and operations management in both the mining and exploration environments, Cullen has worked in several regions across Africa including South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Malawi.

He will drive the activities of Connemara by working with the company's existing joint venture partners, as well as developing the company’s wholly owned licences and exploring new directions.

Cullen holds an MBA in project management from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. He graduated from University College Cork in 1992 with a BSc and completed his honours degree at the University of Portsmouth in 1994.

"We are delighted to have Patrick join us, bringing relevant mining and exploration experience and knowledge of capital markets. His enthusiasm, commitment and experience will support our vision to deliver value to our stakeholders," commented Connemara chairperson John Teeling.

Connemara is an active exploration company with principal assets in gold, zinc and lead exploration licences in Ireland. It has interests in 35 licences and has joint ventures with Teck Resources and Hendrick Resources.
