Automotive components manufacturer Valeo has invited engineering students worldwide to enter its Valeo Innovation Challenge and submit projects using the contest’s website by February 2.

The challenge aims to offer young engineers the opportunity to create equipment that will make cars more intelligent and intuitive by 2030.

The Valeo Innovation Challenge is part of the company’s innovation strategy and of its yearly research and development budget of more than €1-billion.

Comprising teams of two to five people, engineering students can take part by submitting a relevant, innovative project in English.

The aim is to stimulate students’ creativity and, to form multidisciplinary teams, engineering students can join forces with students in the social sciences or any other scientific discipline that they deem useful for their project.

The 20 shortlisted teams to be selected in April will create a mock-up of their project in the format of their choice, including a physical mock-up or application. Each team will receive €5 000 to put its idea into practice and build a functioning demonstration model.

After the jury has made its decision, the 20 contending teams will receive an email announcing the contest’s results in September.

Further, a list of six teams will also be selected to present their project to the jury in Frankfurt, Germany, and will be announced on Valeo’s websites and on social media in September.
