Company becomes sole distributor of conveyor belt cleaning system

VERSATILE The CleanScrape Cleaner can be used in a wide range of applications including mining, coal handling, quarrying, cement and scrap

Belt conveyor technology company Martin Engineering has become the sole distributor of the CleanScrape Cleaner conveyor belt cleaning system – taking exclusive responsibility for its sales in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

The CleanScrape Cleaner was developed by conveyor belt cleaning technology developer CleanScrape in 2014.

The benefits of using the system on a conveyor belt include low belt wear, extended service life, reduced maintenance and improved safety.

The conveyor belt cleaner can be used in a range of applications including mining, quarrying and coal, cement and scrap handling.

Unlike the industry norm of mounting belt cleaners at a 90° angle to the belt, the CleanScrape Cleaner is installed diagonally across the discharge pulley, forming a three-dimensional curve beneath the discharge area that conforms to the pulley’s shape.

The design incorporates a matrix of tungsten carbide scrapers and is tensioned lightly against the belt to prevent damage to the belt or splices.

“Despite extremely low contact pressure between the belt and the cleaner, it can remove as much as 95% of potential carry-back material,” says Martin Engineering Europe MD Michael Hengl.

He adds that this approach also helps with limiting the need for using secondary belt cleaners.

Hengl says the CleanScrape Cleaner protects the belt as it applies low force when it cleans. It is also suited to slow and fast conveyor belts, including those with mechanical splices.

The design of the conveyor belt cleaner is a good solution for areas with restricted space because of its compact size. It can be located either inside or outside the transfer chute, and the straightforward installation typically requires less than two hours, he says.

CleanScrape Cleaner conveyor belt cleaners are generally sold in three sizes – small, medium and large – which cover drum diameters of 270 mm to 1 250 mm and belt widths of 300 mm to 2 800 mm.

Each size is available in four different carbide metal grades to suit specific materials and belt structures, one of which is a carbide formulation developed for use on mechanically spliced belts. The supporting components of the assembly can be specified in regular steel or in stainless steel for specialised applications.

All CleanScrape Cleaner designs can be used in underground mining and, in addition to the pre- assembled belt cleaners that are ready for installation, the units can also be supplied in coiled lengths of 12.4 m, which allows the user to cut to length as needed. Necessary equipment and accessories, such as chains or steel cables, are also available by the metre.

“Both companies saw the value in collaboration, partly because of the technology, but also because of the similar company cultures.”

He adds that the companies’ comparable values are based on innovative solutions and quick internal decision-making.

“The CleanScrape Cleaner represents an entirely new dimension in belt cleaning, and we are so confident in its performance that we provide a money-back satisfaction guarantee,” concludes Hengl.
