Thousands of people took to the streets of Bonn ahead of the talks calling for the phasing out of coal as a source of power. Indecision around ending coal production has been one of the sticking points in the coalition negotiations between the recently re-elected German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, and her would-be allies, the Greens and the probusiness Free Democrats.
