BOLIVIAN MINEWORKERS MARCH

1st November 2013 By: Martin Creamer - Creamer Media Editor

These Bolivian mineworkers are seen commemorating the anniversary of the violent revolt of El Alto ten years ago, which arose from grievances over natural gas exportation and coca eradication. The conflict toppled the then President Gonzalo Sánchez de Lozada and brought to power Bolivia’s former coca farmer union leader Evo Morales, making him the country’s first indigenous President. El Alto remains Morales’ largest support base as the country now heads towards its next general election in 2014.
