PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Mining major BHP Billiton has appointed Grant King as independent nonexecutive director, effective March 1.

Between 2000 and 2016, King served as the MD and CEO of Australian oil and gas major Origin Energy, and is currently the president of the Business Council of Australia.

BHP chairperson Jac Nasser on Thursday said King’s appointment reflected the company’s commitment to a structured and rigorous approach to board succession and planning, having regard to the skills, experience and attributes required to effectively govern the business.

Pat Davies, who has been a nonexecutive director since 2012, will retire from the board on April 6, to focus on his family business and pursue other interests.
