Barrick’s North Mara mine selected as employer of the year in Tanzania

The North Mara gold mine, jointly owned by gold mining company Barrick Gold Corporation and the Tanzanian government through Twiga Minerals, has been awarded Employer of the Year at the 2023 Association of Tanzania Employers (ATE) Awards ceremony.

The event was held at the Mlimani City Conference Centre, in Dar es Salaam.

In addition to Twiga being associated with the Employer of the Year award, it was included in the winning of five other categories of awards at the ceremony as well. These included Overall Private Sector Employer (North Mara mine), Best Corporate Social Responsibility (North Mara mine), Excellence in Crisis Management (Bulyanhulu mine), second runner-up for Local Content (North Mara mine) and Best Large Organisation Employer of the Year (North Mara mine).

These awards also recognised Barrick's contributions towards cultivating a positive work environment, support of local communities through corporate social responsibility programmes, resilience in crisis management, and active engagement in the promotion of local content.

Additionally, North Mara received recognition at this year's Tanzania Revenue Authority Taxpayer Appreciation Awards, adding to its accolades by securing the awards for Substantial Taxes and Duties Paid for Exported Goods in 2022/23 and Compliant Taxpayer in the Mining Sector for the year 2022/23.
