Atalaya lifts copper guidance

Dual-listed Atalaya Mining has increased its guidance for 2021, following a strong year-to-date production performance at its Proyecto Riotinto mine, in Spain.

The company now expects to produce between 54 000 t and 56 000 t of copper – 2 000 t more than its original guidance.

Atalaya produced 13 933 t of copper in the third quarter, taking its year-to-date output to 42 670 t.

The plant processed 3.9-million tonnes of ore during the third quarter, equivalent to a throughput rate of about 16-million tonnes a year, which included a planned mill maintenance shutdown during the period.

Recoveries of 87.29% were better than budgeted and helped to offset the impact of the mill shutdown and lower grades.
