Apollo records good results from drilling programme in Gabon

ASX-listed Apollo Minerals says the Eastern Dikaki high-grade zone (Dikaki-East) at its Kroussou zinc/lead project, in Gabon, has doubled, with mineralisation now defined over 500 m and open along trend with significant thick, shallow mineralisation displayed in broad step out drilling – the first ever drilling in the untested 2.5 km strike eastern area.

In an update on activities for the quarter ended June 30, the company says exploration drilling during the quarter focussed on the Dikaki prospect, which is one of 18 target prospects at Kroussou.

The drill programme, which was designed to test for mineralisation to the east and west of known intercepts on nominal 200 m and 400 m spaced sections, and to test the entire width of the channel, has now been completed.

The programme has been particularly successful in discovering high-grade mineralisation in the Dikaki-East area, Apollo points out.

Assays are pending for a further 19 drill holes from Dikaki for 1 040 m.

Assay results to date from Dikaki continue to display the potential for a large-scale, shallow, flat-lying, broad mineralised system with the most recent results demonstrating that the thick shallow system is open along strike up to 2 km to the east, where shallow high-grade mineralisation has been intersected by recent drilling.

During the quarter, results were received for the first holes of the 2022 diamond drilling programme.

High-grade mineralisation at Dikaki is associated with conglomerate and sandstone units and continues to be zinc-dominant, with zinc comprising 73% of the total zinc and lead content in the latest results.

Results of these holes have displayed significant thick mineralisation in the eastern extension of Dikaki.

Significant intercepts reported at Dikaki-East included a 60 m zone of mineralisation.

Apollo also highlights sulphide base metal mineralisation at two new prospects.

Base metal grades of up to 5.1% zinc and lead were returned from surface rock samples at target prospects 1 (TP1) and 4. First assays ever were received from TP1.

Reconnaissance mapping, soils and surface rock chip assay results identified base metal mineralisation hosted in matrix-supported conglomerate, similar to the host displayed at Dikaki.

Two diamond drill rigs are currently active on regional targets with further results expected in due course.

A regional airborne electromagnetic (AEM) survey over the 80 km of prospective strike length at Kroussou is substantially complete, with results expected in the September quarter.

Also, 100% ownership of Kroussou has been secured through the completion of agreements with ASX-listed Trek Metals and Battery Minerals.
