Russia's Alrosa has sold 136 gem-quality diamonds, with a total weight of 2 234 ct, for $10.7-million at an auction in Hong Kong.

The sale included 25 fancy yellow diamonds, weighing 440 ct.

Alrosa said on Tuesday that 54 companies from Hong Kong, mainland China, Belgium, Israel and India took part in the auction.

"This year's last diamond auction in Hong Kong was held simultaneously with the Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair. During the last auction, we sold not only rough diamonds of standard colour, but also rare fancy yellow stones, which are particularly popular in the market," Alrosa director Evgeny Agureev said.

Since the beginning of the year, the company has sold over 5 500 ct of diamonds for a total amount of about $35-million.
