African Oxygen Limited (Afrox) is sub-Saharan Africa’s market leader in gas and welding products. Afrox was founded in 1927, listed on the JSE in 1963, and has since prospered by constantly meeting the needs of customers and developing solutions that add value to customers’ applications. Afrox operates in South Africa and in ten other African countries and manages operations in five more on behalf of parent company The Linde Group – a global gases, engineering and technology company.

Manufacturing of our gases and other products takes place on 41 different sites throughout Southern Africa. This comprises 31 units and 16 on-sites (automated plants not requiring operators), with some manufacturing sites hosting more than one unit. The bulk acheduling centre deals with more than 20 000 customer drops a month, while our transport fleet covers around 24-million kilometres a year. Afrox employs more than 3 000 people and has a national network of distributors and branded Gas & Gear centres. Our national customer service centre receives more than 70 000 calls, 8 000 faxes and 20 000 e-mails a month. Outbound calls, faxes and e-mails to our customers are in excess of 94 000 a month.
