13th January 2022

African mining leaders will share their renewable energy and decarbonisation strategies next month at the second annual Energy and Mines Africa Virtual Summit, Feb 22-23.

Creamer Media is the official media partner for this event which features CEOs and senior representatives from Rio Tinto, Anglo American, Newmont Africa, Gold Fields, Harmony Gold, Pan African Resources, Shanta Gold, IAMGOLD, Centamin, Ivanhoe Mines, AngloGold Ashanti, De Beers Group, Impala Platinum, Sibanye-Stillwater, Sedibelo Platinum Mines, Tronox, Giyani Metals Corp., and Insignia Corporation on the agenda.

Mining leaders will be joined by global renewable energy, energy storage, green hydrogen and finance experts to discuss energy savings, renewables integration and decarbonisation opportunities and challenges for African mining companies. 500+ participants are expected.

The event will showcase the mining companies leading the transition to low-carbon, sustainable mining operations in Africa and address key questions around how mines assess renewable energy options and analyze the commercial structure of these projects. It also explores how renewable energy goals are aligned with ESG, climate and sustainability goals for African mining companies.

“There is such potential for African mining companies to lead on the transition to zero-carbon energy for mining operations but, as with any transition, there are challenges that need to be addressed,” said Adrienne Baker, Director of Energy and Mines. “The Summit offers an opportunity for mining companies to learn from their peers and for suppliers on the renewable energy and finance side to understand what mines need and how they fit.”

Thought-Leader sponsors for the Summit are juwi Renewable Energies and Suntrace. 247Solar is lead sponsor and additional sponsors include the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service, Tronox and Voltvision.
