The 245 ct white Type II diamond from the Letšeng mine

LSE-listed Gem Diamonds has announced the recovery of an exceptional quality 245 ct white Type II diamond from the Letšeng mine, in Lesotho, on June 11.

Type II diamonds have no measurable nitrogen impurities and are considerably rare.

The 245 ct diamond discovered over the weekend represents the third diamond of over 100 ct recovered from the Letšeng mine within the past few weeks.

The other diamonds were a 129 ct diamond that was discovered on May 23, as well as a 125 ct diamond discovered on May 31.

The Letšeng mine is known for its production of large, top colour, exceptional white diamonds, making it the highest average dollar per carat kimberlite diamond mine globally.
