Name: Zinkgruvan mine.

Location: Zinkgruvan is located in south-central Sweden, about 250 km south-west of Stockholm and about 15 km from Askersund.

Mine Owner/s: Zinkgruvan Mining, a subsidiary of Lundin Mining.

Brief Description: Zinkgruvan mines from several orebodies. Mine access is principally through three shafts.

Brief History: Zinkgruvan has a long history, having been in continuous production since 1857. The operation comprises an underground mine, a processing plant and associated infrastructure, and produces zinc, lead and copper concentrates.

Lundin Mining acquired the mine from Rio Tinto in 2004.

Primary Metals/Minerals: Zinc, lead, copper and silver.

Secondary Metals/Minerals: None stated.

Geology/Mineralisation: The Zinkgruvan deposit comprises a stratiform, massive zinc/lead deposit situated in an east-west-striking synclinal structure within the lower Proterozoic Svecofennian supracrustal sequence.

The deposit exhibits distinctive stratification and extends for more than 5 000 m along strike and to depths of 1 600 m. Zinkgruvan orebodies range from 3 m to 40 m in thickness. The orebodies are dominated by sphalerite and galena, and are generally massive, well-banded and stratiform. In the central part of the deposit the zinc/lead mineralisation is stratigraphically underlain by a substratiform copper stockwork. The copper stockwork mineralisation occurs in the structural hanging wall of the Burkland deposit. Chalcopyrite is the main copper mineral.

Reserves: Total proven and probable zinc reserves as at June 30, 2020, were estimated at 8.79-million tonnes grading 7.9% zinc, 3.6% lead and 81 g/t silver. Total proven and probable copper reserves were estimated at 3.1-million tonnes grading 1.9% copper, 0.3% zinc and 30 g/t silver.

Resources: Total measured resources for zinc zones as at June 30, 2020, were estimated at 6.69-million tonnes grading 7.9% zinc, 3% lead and 74 g/t gold. In the indicated category, resources were estimated at 15.91-million tonnes grading 9% zinc, 3.5% lead and 81 g/t silver. Inferred resources were measured at 18.98-million tonnes grading 7.6% zinc, 3.5% lead and 82 g/t silver.

Total measured resources for copper zones as at June 30, 2020, were estimated at 3.63-million tonnes grading 2.3% copper, 0.3% lead and 36 g/t silver in the measured category. Indicated resources were measured at 463 000 t grading 2% copper, 0.9% zinc and 38 g/t silver. Inferred resources were estimated at 241 000 t grading 2% copper, 0.5% zinc and 35 g/t silver.

Mining Method: Underground. The mine is highly mechanised and uses longhole primary secondary panel stoping and sublevel benching in various areas of the mine. Recently underhand panel stoping has been introduced to the lower sections of some orebodies.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: The site is serviced by high-quality State roads, secure high-voltage electricity supply, fresh water and telecommunications. Operations are supported by a local and national logistics supply chain ensuring highly efficient site activities, with minimal need for site-based warehousing. The integration of suppliers extends to the delivery of goods directly to the underground logistics hubs.

Mine access is principally through three shafts. A ramp system is used to access mine levels below the shaft.

The processing plant is located adjacent to the primary P2 shaft and comprises two processing lines.

Tailings are pumped to a dedicated tailings impoundment, from which water is returned to be reused in the process. Concentrates are trucked from the mine to a nearby inland port from where they are shipped by canal and sea to European smelter customers.

Prospects: None stated.
