Shown in this picture are some of the estimated 8 000 members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) who attended the May Day celebration rally at the Griffons Rugby Stadium, in Welkom, in the Free State, on May 1. In his keynote address, AMCU president Joseph Mathunjwa lambasted government for its failure to deliver “meaningful economic empowerment” and for not prioritising the needs of the South African working class.
