WEIGHING ON CONFIDENCE

While entrepreneurs see opportunity where others see problems, investors, nevertheless, are notoriously shy of uncertainty. Sadly, South Africa’s toxic political environment has served to increase uncertainty levels, which, in turn, is holding back investor confidence. The North-West University School of Business and Governance’s latest Policy Uncertainty Index (PUI) confirmed this negative trend. The results for the second quarter show an average index score of 53.1, a further rise over the PUI of 51 in the previous quarter. This means that policy uncertainty has risen further into negative territory.
