Name: Waihi mine.

Location: The Waihi mine is located in the Waihi township near the east coast of the North Island, in New Zealand.

Holding and Controlling Company: OceanaGold.

Brief Description: Waihi is a high-grade gold mine, which has an estimated two-year mine life. It comprises the Martha openpit and associated underground mines. The Correnso underground mine is the current active operation at the site producing about 100 000 oz/y of gold.

Brief History: Openpit mining and processing started at the site in 1988 and underground mining in 2004, with the extraction of ore starting in late 2006.

OceanaGold acquired the mine in October 2015.

Products: Gold.

Geology/Mineralisation: The Waihi epithermal gold/silver mineralised veins are hosted in Miocene andesite lavas beneath the Waihi township area. The mineralised quartz veins are typically coincident with extensional faults and are believed to have formed in an extensional setting related to back-arc rifting during initiation of the current north-north-east-trending subduction regime. Waihi veins have been dated at 6.1-million years. Vein geometry is typically steep-dipping. Vein widths vary along strike and vertically.

Reserves: Total proven and probable reserves as at October 2015, were estimated at 1.52-million grading 6.33 g/t gold and 23.99 g/t silver.

Resources: Measured and indicated resources as at October 2015, were estimated at 1.52-million grading 6.33 g/t gold and 23.99 g/t silver.

Mining Method: Openpit and underground.

Major Infrastructure and Equipment: The Waihi operation has been in full production since 1988 and all mine site infrastructure has been completed to support the openpit and underground operations, including a tailings storage facility, workshops, a water treatment plant, waste dumps and ore processing facilities.

Recovery of gold at Waihi is achieved using leaching and adsorption following a conventional semiautogenous mill/ball mill grinding circuit.

Prospects: Drilling continues to return promising widths and grades across multiple targets, adding incremental ounces to vein extensions that are being mined at Waihi’s Correnso, Empire, Christina and Daybreak deposits.

Additionally, encouraging widths and grades within the Favona and Gladstone areas indicate the potential for life-of-mine extensions for Waihi. Follow-up drilling of the Rex vein has also returned high-grade intercepts.
