VOTING FOR MANDATES

The announcement of South Africa’s municipal election date more or less coincided with Discovery’s announcement that the company intended moving to a mandatory Covid vaccination policy from January 1. The move will not make CEO Adrian Gore popular with everyone, especially in a context of ongoing vaccine hesitancy, spurred on by a small but hard core of anti-vaxxers. Nevertheless, Gore’s well-considered arguments create a vital platform for resolving the issue for employers, big and small. Hopefully, the new cohort of municipal councillors will be as ready to show similar leadership when they are installed.
